    WHAT HAPPENED?

A couple of weeks ago, South Africa winger Mohau Nkota made a shock move to the Saudi Pro League, where he joined Al-Ettifaq.

The 20-year-old had just made his name in the Premier Soccer League, where he played 39 games across all competitions for the club with a return of seven goals and five assists.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos also gave Nkota his chance in the June international break, where he featured against Tanzania and Mozambique, respectively.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Before Nkota's exploits and eventual move, many football lovers in Mzansi had expected Relebohile Mofokeng to leave at the end of the previous season since he had many suitors.

Nkota has now revealed how his former teammate reacted to the move and the whole team at large.

He has further opened up on the conditions that were set by the Saudi Pro League outfit, before the announcement was made official.

    WHAT NKOTA SAID

“He was happy for me. He said go; I talked to him about it after they announced, I sat with him on the bus," he told the Sports Night Amplified.

“They announced after a friendly game we had in Spain, we went into the bus, and when everyone took out their phones, they were surprised.

“[My new club] said to me I mustn’t say anything [about the move] because if I tell one, it’s gone," Nkota added.

    AND WHAT IS MORE

Recently, former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Junior Khanye argued that Mofokeng's low start is because he was negatively affected by Nkota's move, but that has been denied by the latter.

“I don’t know what’s happening to my boy now, but he’s going to be okay.

“People are talking, but I don’t know, actually, that’s not my focus. I wish him all the best. I hope he does better than last season," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Nkota hopes to deliver for his new club and retain his place in the national team, Bafana Bafana, especially ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nevertheless, Mofokeng should concentrate on his game at Bucs, who have struggled for a decent start to the 2025/26 campaign across all competitions.

He has no assists nor a goal in the four games played so far, where Bucs have won one, lost two, and drawn once.
