    WHAT HAPPENED?

George Matlou is among the players who have served Kaizer Chiefs for a long time.

He joined the Soweto giants from a now-defunct Moroka Swallows in the 2022/23 season.

However, he has struggled to make an impact at the club owing to regular injuries.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

To date, the 26-year-old has played just 40 games for Amakhosi across all competitions.

In the ongoing edition, he has managed to play 15 games across all competitions, with two goals and as many assists.

However, his contract with the club concludes at the end of June.

The Saturday game against Polokwane in the Premier Soccer League campaign might be his last if coach Nasreddine Nabi sees him as a surplus to requirements.

Matlou refused to comment on his future at the club, leaving it to his representatives and the club.

    WHAT MATLOU SAID

“Yes, my contract is coming to an end, it’s coming to an end in June, but I’m gonna leave that to of course to God... and of course, most definitely to the technical team, to everyone, the board and staff, to give me the opportunity if they do," he told the media.

"But it’s football, so I’m not gonna plan for the future now, but now my focus is to win Saturday’s game [against Polokwane City] to get into the top eight.

“As a player, I’m only focused on the game. The last game we're gonna play [this season]," he continued.

“So, what’s gonna happen next it’s the club and my agent, so I’ll hear from my agent what he says.

“I’m one player that does not talk to the agent when the season is on, so I have to focus on the team that I’m playing for currently.

“Because, if I’m gonna start thinking about the contract and stuff, I’m gonna lose the concentration on the game," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

A win this weekend will be enough to see Amakhosi make the top eight of the Premier Soccer League table.

It will be a plus for Nabi's men, who won the Nedbank Cup recently to end their decade-long trophy drought and qualify for the Caf Confederation Cup, if they can add qualification to the MTN8 cup to their season's achievements.
