    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi believes that his team was denied a penalty in their Caf Champions League match against AS FAR Rabat on Saturday in Morocco.

The Brazilians took the lead in the 66th minute through Iqraam Rayners' goal, but their joy was short-lived as Mohamed Hrimat equalized for Rabat in the 74th minute.

Rabat's goal came after a controversial transition following a foul on Khuliso Mudau in the host’s penalty area, which Mngqithi argues Mauritanian referee Beida Dahane should have awarded as a penalty to Sundowns.

    WHAT MNGQITHI SAID

"Unfortunately, in a moment where I think my right-back (Khuliso Mudau) was fouled in the AS FAR post, immediately from there they got into transition and managed to score," Mngqithi told the media.

"But I am not yet sure at the moment because I didn't see it in the video but I do believe that Mudau was fouled inside the box. But that can't be an excuse, we played a very good team.

"It was a very good game, tactically good, but like I said we were caught in transition where I think my right-back was fouled inside the AS FAR box and I am feeling very strong that we should have given a penalty, but I may be wrong."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The disappointing outcome in Morocco against AS FAR marked Sundowns' second draw in this season's Champions League group stage.

Mngqithi's team commenced the group stage with a frustrating draw versus the Congolese club AS Maniema Union at Loftus Versfeld Stadium two weeks ago.

Although Mngqithi views the draw with Rabat as a crucial point on the road, Sundowns currently sit in second place in the Group B standings with only two points.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS?

Sundowns will return to South Africa to prepare for another challenging Champions League match against Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca, with the match taking place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on December 15.

This will be a very important game for the Brazilians and Mngqithi, who may experience considerable pressure as he has not secured a win in two matches in the competition, which seems to be Downs' top priority.
