    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns will be at the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup to be staged in the United States of America.

They are in Group F, where they have been drawn with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, Fluminense and South Korean side Ulsan HD.

Masandawana forward Peter Shalulile, who is one goal away from equalling the record for the most goals (129) in the PSL era, has explained what motivates him as he seeks to shine at this tournament.

    WHAT SHALULILE SAID

“Cristiano Ronaldo. And he still is the one I look up to, because he has that ’never-say-die’ attitude. He’s someone that has shaped my life in terms of physicality, mentality, what to eat, and how to carry yourself,” Shalulile told FIFA.com.

“Well, when it comes to strikers, you are never satisfied. You want to score goals. Every day, you just want to score goals. Even on all my off days, I just feel like there is something missing because I just want to put the ball in the net.

“Showcasing my talent on that level is another massive thing because you will be going into the [history] books – that there was this is player from Namibia, from Sundowns, who scored in a Club World Cup.”

    AND WHAT MORE?

Shalulile talks about Sundowns' target at the Club World Cup.

"The club’s goal is to make sure we make it out of the group stage," the former Highlands Park forward said.

"That’s the target. I expect us to do it, because we don’t just go into any competition to make up the numbers, but to be a team where they [the opposition] can also fear us."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Club World Cup is set to provide the Brazilians with a test of their calibre after carving themselves a reputation as an African giant.

This comes after they failed to win a single match at their debut appearance at this tournament in 2026 in Japan.

No African team has ever won the Club World Cup and Sundowns are attempting what looks like a monumental task.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS?

The Brazilians are at the busiest stage of their season, where they are trying to balance continental and domestic responsibilities.

They are two wins away from sealing an eighth consecutive Premier Soccer League title and are also in the Caf Champions League final.
