    WHAT HAPPENED?

    Mamelodi Sundowns were drawn in Group F against European giants Borussia Dortmund, Brazilian side Fluminense FC and Ulsan HD FC from South Korea.

    The tournament will be staged in the United States of America from June 15 to July 13 2025 with 11 cities hosting the matches.

    Masandawana open their campaign against Ulsan HD as they seek to reach the knockouts.

    Former Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena, who is now in charge of Wydad AC, will face his role model, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in Group G.

    While Bafana Bafana vice-captain Percy Tau's Al Ahly and South African winger Elias Mokwana's Esperance de Tunis also discovered their group stage opponents.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    No African team has ever won the Club World Cup before and the Brazilians together with their Caf rivals will be bidding to make history in 2025.

    Masandawana will be making their second appearance at this tournament, having first featured at the 2016 edition where they lost both their two games in Japan.

    They will now be seeking to record their first win at the World Cup.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS?

    For now, Sundowns' focus is on pushing for an eighth consecutive Premier Soccer League title, winning the Caf Champions League as well as the Nedbank Cup.

    Campaigning in these tournaments will determine if coach Manqoba Mngqithi will still be at the club when they go to the Club World Cup.
