Mamelodi Sundowns captain Williams shares excitement after Fifa Club World Cup Draw - 'I’ve got such goosebumps just seeing our name up there'

Mamelodi Sundowns were drawn into Group F of the Fifa Club World Cup alongside top sides Fluminense from Brazil, Borussia Dortmund from Germany, and South Korea firepower Ulsan Hyundai.

Sundowns’ captain Ronwen Williams shared his excitement about the draw, expressing how thrilled he is to see his team among the world’s best.

Williams mentioned the pride he felt seeing Sundowns’ name on the draw screen, acknowledging it as an incredible achievement for the club.

“Wonderful draw, wonderful setup. I'm just so happy to see the name Mamelodi Sundowns up there with the best. I’ve got such goosebumps just seeing our name up there," said Williams on the club's media.

“Once our name came on the screen, it’s heartfelt, just an amazing achievement for the club.

“We’re currently in camp in Morocco, preparing for our Champions League game, and it was nice that all the players were together. We watched the draw together, and the reaction that we all got once our name arrived on the screen.

“Not really, like I mentioned, just being mentioned amongst the best, being part of such a prestigious event, such a big tournament, it's already enough. It's already so big that any team you play, you're going to play against the best. And we're excited. It would have been nice if we could have gotten Manchester City because my son is a big supporter of them. He just loves the football that they play, so it would have been nice, but in saying that, I'm very happy with the draw."

“We are in Group F. It’s a wonderful group. All the groups were going to be tough," added Williams.

"It’s nice that there are some teams we are familiar with, like Fluminense. We have similar traits in our build-up, in the way that they play. Similar traits, similar structures. We used a lot of their clips and a lot of their build-ups as well.

"I know there is someone in our camp who will be extremely happy, which is Tashreeq Matthews because he played for Dortmund.

“And Ulsan, all the way from Korea, we know how tough it’s going to be. They play fast football.

“So overall, we’re happy, we’re excited, and we can’t wait for the Club World Cup to start.”

Sundowns' primary focus is to defend their league title and continue their strong campaign in the Caf Champions League.
