    Bucs assert MTN8 dominance

Orlando Pirates beat Stellenbosch FC 3-0 at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday to clinch the MTN8 title for a fourth season in a row.

It was the Soweto giants' 14th MTN8 crown and they are now just one title from matching Kaizer Chiefs' record of claiming this trophy 15 times.

The Buccaneers' club director, Mpumi Khoza, whose father is Irvin Khoza, feels that much focus should now be invested in winning the PSL title.

Khoza speaks about Pirates' big hopes

"When we went on preseason, which our chairman [Irvin Khoza] initially took, it was as if it was a shot in the dark, but he invested in it, and we are thankful that it pays off in tournaments like this," said Khoza on SuperSport TV.

"We hope that when we go on to the league, our things will have time to settle and come together.

“I think, as our chairman (Irvin) has already said to us, that our job is always to improve the history of Orlando Pirates.”

The big battle to dethrone Sundowns

Pirates are bidding to end Mamelodi Sundowns' dominance of the PSL, which has seen the Brazilians lift the league title in the last eight seasons.

It is a big battle for the Buccaneers, who have finished the last three terms as the PSL runners-up.

Their ambitions see in-form Kaizer Chiefs as another side to worry about this season.

    What next for Pirates?

After the MTN8 triumph, Pirates switch attention to CAF Champions League duties and they face Lioli FC from Lesotho in the first preliminary round, first leg at Free State Stadium on Saturday.

It is another competition that coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has to prove himself in.
