    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs finished in an embarrassing 10th position in the 2023-24 Premier Soccer League campaign and have gone nine seasons without a trophy.

In a bid to end the unwanted run, the Soweto giants appointed Nasreddine Nabi as their new coach and signed seven players to help in rebuilding.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Among the new faces at the club were former Cape Town Spurs and Bafana Bafana international Rushwin Dortley.

The 22-year-old has played all the seven competitive matches the Glamour Boys have played this season in across all tournaments.

He is also a trusted member of Hugo Broos' South Africa squad.

The centre-back is determined to see the Glamour Boys get back to the top of South African football.

    WHAT DORTLEY SAID

"For you to be selected in every camp you have to perform at club level, you can’t expect to be in a team when the team qualified and expect to go to Afcon," the defender told the media.

"You have to perform at club level, your team has to do good in order for you to be chosen again for Afcon.

"So, I think for me it’s to stay consistent at club level and do what I’ve been doing and help Kaizer Chiefs reach things they haven’t reached in the past and to bring glory days back to the club and that will hopefully put me in the team for Afcon," Dortley concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Having played a vital role in helping Bafana Bafana qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, it is obvious the defender wants to go all the way and represent Mzansi in Morocco.

However, as he rightfully stated, he has to deliver consistently for the Glamour Boys to stand a chance of making the Bafana squad.
