    WHAT HAPPENED?

Even though Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling, coach Nasreddine Nabi has said his players are in a good mood ahead of their Nedbank Cup showdown against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Amakhosi are set to face the Tshwane giants in the cup's semi-final duel, and Nabi said they have tried to identify the source of their poor run, and now the focus is on the Sundowns match.

    WHAT NABI SAID

“To be honest with you, I can’t say that we are in a good situation. I think the last three games were so difficult for us because from the beginning we always had problems when playing against teams that we are normally better than," Nabi said, as quoted by iDiski Times.

“So always we find a problem when we play against this kind of team, but we discussed seeing what the problem is, finding the problem, and trying to correct the situation. We get a lot of meetings between the players and us, but we, as the technical bench, try to analyse the situation.

“But to be honest with you now, actually we are in a good way. That’s in the past; we discussed it, we tried to solve it, and now we can concentrate on the future," he added.

“I think we take responsibility if we don’t win this game. Like I said, we analysed all the situations, but it’s between us and the players. We know what the situation is, and we are finished discussing what happened before.

“We are now only thinking about Sunday’s game against Sundowns in the Nedbank semi-final," the former Young Africans SC coach concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Nedbank is the only silverware Chiefs are chasing this season. But their poor form could complicate things for them, especially given that their semi-final opponents are in impressive form.

The Soweto giants are winless in the last four games, and Sundowns, on the other hand, will come rejuvenated, especially after seeing off Esperance in the Caf Champions League.

The Premier Soccer League defending champions progressed to the semi-final of the continental competition, meaning they are in the hunt for multiple titles as compared to Amakhosi.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

The trip to Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday gives Chiefs a chance to keep their cup dream alive and possibly end the season with at least something to smile about after struggling in PSL.

Should they eventually emerge successful in the cup campaign, the pressure building up on coach Nabi's shoulders will ease.
