    WHAT HAPPENED?

Peter Shalulile has been excelling at Masandawana since joining from Highlands Park in the 2020/21 Premier Soccer League soccer campaign.

The Namibia international has since been scoring goals at will, winning the league's Golden Boot twice, to make it three after winning once previously with his immediate former team.

At 31, he surely has a lot to give the Brazilians who are chasing their eighth consecutive PSL title.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

During his time in the Premier Soccer League, Shalulile has scored 127 goals in the Mzansi top tier.

He is just three shy of beating Bafana Bafana legend Siyabonga Nomvethe, who is the all-time top scorer, having scored 129 goals in the league.

Locally, the former South Africa international turned out for African Wanderers, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows, AmaZulu, and Uthongathi.

Namibia coach Collin Benjamin is convinced his top marksman has what it takes to be the new record holder.

    WHAT BENJAMIN SAID

"What I think about the PSL record is about to break it [which] is the same view three million Namibians are having," the tactician told the media.

"We are waiting and praying for him [Shalulile] to do it. He knows that we are proud of him.

"The value that Shalulile brings to the [Namibia] team is amazing; I am going to amplify it again," Benjamin continued.

"He's an absolute professional, absolutely patriotic, and a leader on and off the field.

"He's the first one that carries bags off the bus or off the airport, and all these things are his off-the-field leadership qualities," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

In the ongoing campaign, Shalulile has six goals in the 22 league games he has played.

It has not been a productive season for him, by his standards, but he can still get the goals needed to break the record since Downs have seven games remaining to complete the season.
