    WHAT HAPPENED?

Bruce Bvuma is one of Kaizer Chiefs' senior players, having been with the Soweto giants since his development days.

Over the years, the goalkeeper has been in and out of the Bafana Bafana squad, gaining experience along the way.

But former Amakhosi goalkeeper Brian Baloyi is not convinced by the 30-year-old's capabilities as a custodian.

    WHAT BALOYI SAID

“You look at Bruce he has gotten the best training that any kid can ever get [because] he started in the juniors with proper training, but he doesn’t have a big heart,” said Baloyi on iDiski Dine.

“He doesn’t have the presence for Pirates and Chiefs. For me, when I look at a goalkeeper, a goalkeeper with talent and technique and stuff, I would overlook them over a goalkeeper who has raw talent. If you look at Bruce, yigwala [he is a coward].”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bvuma was the most-used Chiefs goalkeeper last season, although he was snubbed from the Nedbank Cup final in favour of Brandon Petersen after a concerning rate of conceding goals.

Amakhosi had started the season with Fiacre Ntwari as the number one custodian before Petersen took over and then Bvuma's selection.

It remains to be seen if Bvuma will reclaim the number-one jersey in the upcoming season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR BVUMA?

Chiefs have hinted at shaking up their goalkeeping department after Fiacre Ntwari did not travel to their pre-season camp in the Netherlands.

The Rwandan stirred transfer speculation last season and it would not be surprising if the Soweto giants announce a new goalkeeper which would pose new competition to Bvuma and Petersen.
