    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is under pressure to help the Soweto giants win the 2025 Nedbank Cup.

But a former Amakhosi attacker Absalom Thindwa says Nabi can be forgiven if he fails to guide his team to Nedbank Cup triumph since he is rebuilding.

    WHAT THINDWA SAID

"Chiefs are in the process of rebuilding the team, and during that process, there are bound to be ups and downs," Thindwa told KickOff.

"But now, Nabi is building a new team, which includes young talents like Mduduzi Shabalala. When these young players were promoted to the first team, the players they encountered were also relatively new.

"Chiefs should focus on winning the Nedbank Cup since there is a substantial gap between them and Mamelodi Sundowns in the league title race.

"This Nedbank Cup is one tournament they must take seriously. They should treat every game seriously because that's how you build a winning mentality," added the Amakhosi 80s star.

“If they don't win the Nedbank Cup, it shouldn't be seen as a disaster since they are still in the rebuilding phase.

"It's normal for supporters to tease each other, but that shouldn't prevent a coach from having the space to experiment or make mistakes. That is the only way we learn."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Thindwa tries to play down the possible failure to lift the Nedbank Cup, the success-starved Chiefs fans might not agree with him.

The Soweto giants' supporters have been highly demanding, especially after watching their rival Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi regularly celebrating silverware.

With the PSL title race seemingly out of Chiefs' reach, the Nedbank Cup is the realistic chance of ending their trophy drought.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Amakhosi now prepare to face Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup Last-16 at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

After being eliminated by a National First Division side Milford FC last season, Nabi would be trying to help the club forget that disappointment.
