    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Glamour Boys struggled to get a reliable goalkeeper last season.

At some point, the club's legend Itumeleng Khune, Brandon Petersen, and Bruce Bvuma served as the first choice.

It ended embarrassingly as the club ended the Premier Soccer League season in the 10th position.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ahead of the new season, Fiacre Ntwari was signed with Amakhosi, hoping he can bring much needed stability.

However, he struggled to settle and was initially replaced by Petersen, before Bvuma once again outmuscled them to the starting berth.

Since taking over, he has played 16 league matches and conceded 17 times, keeping just five clean sheets in the process.

Retired goalkeeper Joseph Setlhodi, who is one of the club's founding members, does not believe Bvuma has the qualities to help the Soweto giants get to their best.

    WHAT SETLHODI SAID

"If a goalkeeper is not doing well, then the whole team will not be doing well. All title-winning teams have good goalkeepers," he told SNL24.

"He is not well-composed, he doesn't show full ownership of the penalty area. A goalkeeper must put pressure on the opponents, but the likes of Bruce can't read games. All of these goalkeepers are the same. Especially these South African goalkeepers, they are the worst.

"Even me, at my age, I can go there and be a good goalkeeper. Sit on a chair, and stand up only when the ball is coming to my direction," Setlhodi concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

There are rumours from Naturena that coach Nasreddine Nabi is in the market for another shot-stopper.

However, he might change his mind if Bvuma proves his doubters wrong by keeping as many clean sheets as possible in the remaining six PSL matches.

The best he can do is steer Chiefs to the Nedbank Cup title, which will be the first silverware in a decade.
