    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has heaped praise on Relebohile Mofokeng after the Premier Soccer League Soweto Derby win over Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Mofokeng scored the winning goal in the second half as Pirates mounted a comeback after they were stunned in the second minute when Glody Lilepo broke the deadlock in favour of Amakhosi.

Riveiro said the 20-year-old is an inspiration for other players.

    WHAT RIVEIRO SAID

“Rele, I think, is putting smiles on all of our faces in the face of all the Buccaneers since he started to play for us, and the other boys are getting inspiration from him as well," Riveiro said as quoted by KickOff.

“I think we finished with six youngsters on the field, which is something that speaks volumes about the vision of the club and where Pirates is going.

"So, I think that’s a lot of news one more time for the team," he stated.

    WHAT IS MORE

The game at the FNB Stadium was Riveiro's last league derby, and he described the Chiefs-Pirates fixture in glowing terms.

“Something unique, it’s something unique wherever I go; it’s going to be difficult to experience something like this because it’s a proper football party. Hopefully, I have the opportunity to play more derbies wherever I have the opportunity to work," Riveiro added.

“But this one is unique, having the fans watching the game together, no problems celebrating. You know what these clubs are—the proper history of South African football—and it’s something unique that you have to protect forever and something that really.

“I always try to explain to people on the other side of the world what it means to play this game. They don’t understand it until they come, so hopefully more people come because it’s a proper show,” he concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mofokeng has been a sensational figure under the Spaniard, and his prowess was on display once again against Chiefs.

The Bafana Bafana star is viewed as a long-term asset for the Sea Robbers, who are ambitiously hoping to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns' dominance in the league as well as become a competitive force in the Caf competitions.

Mofokeng should now hope to have a far better display when Pirates and Chiefs clash in the Nedbank Cup final.

WHAT NEXT FOR MOFOKENG AND PIRATES?

Bucs will travel to Durban, where the cup final will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on May 10.

Top on Pirates' wishlist is to defend the cup against their Soweto rivals.
