BackpagepixItumeleng Khune gives a solution for how Kaizer Chiefs can get keepers who are at Ronwen Williams's level - 'You need a goalkeeper coach who is South African'
BackpageWHAT HAPPENED?
Former Bafana Bafana star Itumeleng Khune has revealed how Kaizer Chiefs can solve their goalkeeping crisis.
Khune said that Amakhosi particularly need a native goalkeepers' coach who will help the club produce the best custodians, as it has been the tradition for the Soweto giants.

"What is happening at Chiefs is heart-breaking for any Chiefs fan, because this is not what we're used to. Remember, if you look back, Chiefs have always produced great goalkeepers, and you knew there was a number one, and number two was not far off from number one," Khune said, as quoted by Soccer Laduma.
"You need a goalkeeper coach who is South African, who will push you to almost Ronwen's level; that's what used to happen at Chiefs.
"But with the current generation, there's a big gap; we lack goalkeeper coaches. Foreigners occupy the number one spot. What does it do for our national team? When Ronwen (Williams) is not fit, we struggle. Only now is Sipho Chaine coming into the picture," he added.

Khune wondered if the goalkeepers at Chiefs are really pushing themselves to see that they get better each day.
"There was a season Brian Baloyi and Rowen Fernandez were rotating; competition was tight. After them, our generation—myself, Brilliant (Khuzwayo), and Reyaad Pieterse—we were not far off. The number one priority was clean sheets. The current generation, I don't know what's happening, if they're pushing each other," Khune explained.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Bruce Bvuma's level as a Chiefs goalkeeper has been widely questioned, especially after conceding goals against Marumo Gallants. Bvuma has been a regular starter under Nasreddine Nabi, and that is why he has received a giant share of criticism.
Generally, Amakhosi have had a poor run in the Premier Soccer League, but it is their goalkeeping department that has been highly scrutinised.
Recently, Khune hit at Bvuma, saying the Amakhosi goalkeeper didn't listen to his advice while Williams did, and that is why the Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper has been doing better.

With criticism coming from almost all angles - fans and pundits as well as retired goalkeepers - Bvuma, Fiacre Ntwari, and Brandon Peterson must pull up their socks and prove their doubters wrong.
With key games against Orlando Pirates coming up - a league duel on May 3 before a Nedbank Cup on May - these are opportunities for Bvuma, or whoever is going to play, to show that they are among the best goalkeepers in the country.
