    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Dennis Masina has explained why Pitso Mosimane is the right coach to succeed Jose Riveiro at the Premier Soccer League club.

The Spaniard is leaving the Sea Robbers at the end of the season, and Masina has pointed out Mosimane's strength, stating that he is the right candidate.

    WHAT MASINA SAID

"If coach Pitso is willing to coach Pirates, then I would say he is the right one for the job. He has been there and done that. For me, I know Coach Pitso can coach Pirates and can do a great job. I know him very well, and I know what he is capable of doing with a team and his players," Masina told KickOff.

"As I have said, coach Pitso would do a great job at Pirates, but the team management knows much better what is good for the team.

"Whichever coach they hire will be the one that is good for the team. They know how to look for a good coach, and they will do the same this time," he added.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

With Riveiro's exit already confirmed, names have already been linked with the soon-to-be vacant position at the club.

Mosimane's name has been mentioned numerous times, and this is no surprise. The former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach is an experienced tactician who has won multiple titles in the country and on the continent.

He is a PSL winner, a Caf Champions League winner with both Sundowns and Al Ahly, and has also coached outside Africa. He was recently in charge of Esteghlal in Iran.

Given the Bucs' ambition both in PSL and in inter-African club competitions, they are expected to appoint a known winner who is capable of driving them to a higher level of success.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MOSIMANE?

Given that he is currently unattached to any club, Mosimane will continue to be linked with various clubs.

For Bucs, their next choice will be highly scrutinised as fans will be keen to see whether he is capable of matching or surpassing what Riveiro has achieved.
