Innocent Maela waves goodbye to Orlando Pirates fans as Patrick Maswanganyi recovers despite the Buccaneers being frustrated by Magesi FC

Patrick Maswanganyi thrust the Buccaneers ahead after just seven minutes when he struck at first time from a Relebohile Mofokeng freekick at Orlando Stadium.

But Magesi hit back through Edmore Chirambadare on 32 minutes after firing home a Thabang Sibanyoni feed.

The 1-1 draw was not an encouraging result for second-placed Pirates in their final match of tyhe 2024/25 season while Magesi climbed a rung to 12th position on the table.

After a difficult outing in their previous match against AmaZulu, Maswanganyi dusted himself and rose to show his worth, although the Soweto giants could not collect maximum points.

In the 67th minute, Pirates captain Innocent Maela was substituted after a rare start this season and he took time to wave goodbye to fans.

Relebohile Mofokeng had a good outing and capped the season with five goals and seven assists in the league.

It was an evening he also provided for Maswanganyi to score and goes for the off-season break on a high.

It was yet another difficult day in office for Pirates caretaker coach Mandla Ncikazi who has now overseen three draws and a win since Jose Riveiro left.

Wednesday's result does not favour him to be handed the Buccaneers job on a permanent basis or at least being part of the incoming coach's backroom staff.

It is the end of the season for Pirates who have now concluded their season and are now heading to the off-season break.

Magesi will also go to the recess knowing they will not have to go for the relegation/promotion playoffs.
