    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has revealed that he has been receiving many phone calls regarding his future stay with the Premier Soccer League.

Speculation on whether Chiefs will stick with or fire the technical bench has been growing, and Youssef says the only people to make a decision on such a matter are only the club's hierarchy.

    WHAT YOUSSEF SAID

“To be honest with you, our contracts are two years with a one-year extension,” Youssef told SABC Radio 2000’s sports show, Game On, as quoted by FARPost.

“Like you, we saw [the reports] on social media. To be honest with you, yesterday, I received a lot of calls asking about that," he added.

"I don’t know where it’s coming from. But I think the only one who can answer this question is Mr Kaizer [Motaung], the chairman."

    WHAT IS MORE

The tactician also addressed the relationship he has with Nasreddine Nabi, the Chiefs head coach.

“To be honest with you, with Coach Nabi now, it’s our third season working together. We are a family, not a coach and assistant coach,” Youssef stated.

“He gives us a lot of responsibilities to do in the team, with the training and the game. There is a lot of confidence between us. He trusts us, and he believes in us," he added.

“He knows what we do for the team. So the relationship on the technical bench is like family because we know each other. It’s not the first season that we have worked together."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Although Nabi led Chiefs successfully in the Nedbank Cup campaign, uncertainty around his future remains, given that the Glamour Boys have struggled in the PSL.

The Tunisian ended the decade-long wait for a trophy in Naturena by beating Orlando Pirates in the cup final in Durban.

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Motaung Jr. thereafter addressed the Nabi exit rumours by stating that the coach will stay.

After ending the trophy drought, Amakhosi are now back to the PSL duties, where a top eight position is a key target.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

The Glamour Boys will be hosted by Sekhukhune United on May 17 before a game against Polokwane City on May 24.

These games are must-wins for Nabi if Chiefs have to achieve their top-eight dream at the end of the season. Should they fail, that means they have underperformed in the league and could face the sack.
