    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates assistant head coach Mandla Ncikazi has revealed Jose Riveiro's character traits that made it easier for the players to perform under him.

In reflecting on the three years Riveiro spent with the Sea Robbers, the South African tactician revealed his admiration for his boss and explained why players like Relebohile Mofokeng shone.

    WHAT NCIKAZI SAID

“Coach Riveiro is a very unique individual; more than just a coach, he goes further than that. He is highly professional,” Ncikazi told reporters.

“He takes his job very seriously. He is neither too happy nor too disappointed because where there are too many expectations, there is always room for disappointment.

“So, it is easier for the players; whether we win or lose, his approach is the same. I always think that it helps the young players perform without fear. Whether the results are good or bad, he is still the same," he added.

“He is professional, prepares well, and analyses games. He doesn’t rely on analysts, which is a new trend in our teams. He does things for himself so he can create his game plan."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

With the Riveiro chapter set to close soon, all that will remain are memories. The memories are stellar, given that the Spaniard won five trophies for Bucs in the three seasons he was in charge.

The trophies won include two Nedbank Cups and three MTN8 titles. He has a big chance of winning the cup again, given that they will take on Kaizer Chiefs in the final.

Wins over Chiefs are always considered achievements in their own right, given the importance attached to the traditional Soweto fixture. Riveiro won his last league derby and goes into the cup final motivated to get yet another last laugh over Bucs' archrivals.
