From being Rhulani Mokwena's favourite to Miguel Cardoso's outcast, Rivaldo Coetzee opens up on his Mamelodi Sundowns exit -'One day you are at the best club and the next moment you are no longer there'

Riveldo Coetzee was recently released by Mamelodi Sundowns and is now a free agent.

The injury-prone player struggled for game time under Miguel Cardoso after being a favourite of former Masandawana coach Rhulani Mokwena.

He now comments on his Masandawana exit after being at Chloorkop since 2017.

“There is so much I can still do, I trust myself completely,” Coetzee told FARPost.

“It’s just a matter of getting the opportunity and being in a good environment. That’s all I am looking for now. No hint [he laughed]. I am just taking it day by day, taking things as they come. You can’t control these things.

“It’s football, it’s like that in our profession, sometimes one day you are at the best club and the next moment you are no longer there and you are looking for a club," added the former Cape Town Spurs star.

“It’s life, and I take it as it comes. I am just working on my own at the moment and trying to stay fit. Hopefully, something will come up soon.”

Coetzee finds himself a free agent at a time when former Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena did not hide the fact that he is an avid admirer of the player.

After installing GoPro cameras on his players during his time at Sundowns, Mokwena picked Coetzee as the most alert player.

He waxed lyrical about Coetzee being able to scan the pitch and the midfielder being excellent at making decisions.

It is to be seen which club will sign Coetzee, trying to make good transfer business out of a player who is a free agent.

Coetzee has been injury-prone, and that could determine his future.
