MC Alger announced the appointment of Rhulani Mokwena as the club's new head coach on Sunday night ahead of the 2025/26 season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nicknamed the Mouloudia, Alger are set to participate in the upcoming Caf Champions League, after winning the 2024/25 Algerian Ligue 1 title under coach Khaled Ben Yahia.

The Tunisian surprisingly left the Mouloudia at the end of the season and he has since been replaced by one of Africa's top young coaches, Mokwena.

The South African will be looking to hit the ground running at Alger and go on to clinch the Champions League title, which eluded him as Sundowns' coach.

Mokwena will also be reunited with CR Belouizdad coach Sead Ramovic on the touchlines in Algeria, with the two outspoken tacticians having had heated exchanges during their time with Sundowns and TS Galaxy, respectively

    WHAT’S NEXT?

Mokwena will soon be heading to Algeria to prepare Alger for the upcoming season, which is scheduled to start in August.

The Mouloudia are set to take on their city rivals and Algerian Cup champions, USM Alger, in the North African country's Super Cup match.
