    WHAT HAPPENED?

Sekhukhune United defender Daniel Cardoso has advised Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sipho Mbule to change his lifestyle in order to realise his full potential.

There have been numerous reports that Mbule had his loan contract cut short at Sekhukhune because of some disciplinary issues, including alcoholism.

The former South Africa junior international is understood to have been sent back to his parent club, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Cardoso revealed that he has had numerous conversations with Mbule and believes his current situation should serve as a wake-up call. The Sekhukhune United defender believes the midfielder is yet to discover his potential and is one who can easily get signed by a European club.

    WHAT CARDOSO SAID

“It’s quite sad to see [what’s happening with Mbule]. We had a chat so many times, and as you saw again now, another story unfolded, and he’s been let go by us [Sekhukhune United],” Cardoso told Soccer Beat Podcast.

“I’m not sure where he is; I think he is back at Sundowns. I mean, he should be on the national team, and he’s such a great character. But the disciplinary issues do affect him. At 26 years of age, we all go through that phase, and sometimes it’s too late to realise, which I hope doesn’t happen to him

“I hope this has woken him up because Sundowns wanted him back when he went through that good stint with us to go to the Club World Cup, and I don’t think that will happen now with all the negativity around him," he added.

“So I do hope that if he ever gets to see this, I do hope that he comes out of what he’s going through and changes his lifestyle because he’s another player who should be playing in Europe; he has all the talent to play anywhere in the world. ‘Sipho, I hope that you turn your career around, brother.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mbule joined the Limpopo-based side when the 2024-25 season began and, at firs,t showed brilliance with his top-notch passing ability coupled with his creativity.

In 17 matches he played across all competitions, the former SuperSport United star, who was a transfer target for Kaizer Chiefs, scored two goals and provided three assists.

However, his season was clouded with reports of a fallout between him and Babina Noko's technical bench for reportedly coming to the training ground drunk.

Mbule's contract with Sundowns will expire at the end of next month and the club are unlikely to extend his deal.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MBULE?

Whether he will be integrated back into the Sundowns' team or not is the question many are asking.

Masandawana enjoys a deep squad rich with options, and that means Mbule will need to pull up his socks if he has to get regular minutes if he remains with the Tshwane outfit.
