    WHAT HAPPENED?

Marumo Gallants suffered heartbreak in the Nedbank Cup semi-final after a 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates, ending their hopes of reaching the final. The focus now shifts to the league where they are battling to avoid relegation.

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who once played in the English Premier League, remains optimistic despite the setback.

After the game, he heaped praise on his young midfielder Masindi Nemtajela.

Ouaddou believes the 22-year-old has the talent and mentality to play in Europe.

He stressed that while the result was disappointing, there were promising signs, particularly from the emerging star.

    WHAT OUADDOU SAID

"Masindi is a top player, he was not playing a lot at the beginning, but we have to give confidence to the players, to make them play in the right position, and I can see that he's improving," said Ouaddou as reported by SABC Sport.

"He still has a lot of time to progress as well because his development is not finished, and to be honest, I'm very impressed by that player, and I can tell you that, if he continues to work, this guy can easily play in Europe.

"I was a coach in Europe, and he is a top, top player and he just needs to keep working hard."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nemtajela's performances this season have not gone unnoticed, with 16 league appearances already under his belt.

His consistent form has attracted interest from top clubs, including Pirates.

Coach Ouaddou, who knows the European game well, believes Nemtajela can still improve and eventually make the jump abroad.

For now, the midfielder remains vital to Gallants’ survival hopes.

His development could be key both for his club and the broader future of South African football.
