    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former AS FAR assistant coach Jamil Benouahi has expressed his desire to coach Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Kaizer Chiefs.

The Moroccan tactician has pointed out areas that, if ever he lands the job, he would like to implement and turn the Naturena club into a competitive outfit.

    WHAT BENOUAHI SAID

“To be honest, I’m very obsessed with a good project with a vision, so I would like to coach a team like Kaizer Chiefs,” Jamil Benouahi told FARPost.

“I mean, this is a big club, and they should be on top of the league, not where they are now. I would be happy to come, implement new things, and work on the behaviour and attitude of players.

“Once you have your players and everyone thinking the same and having the same targets, I’m 100% sure that Kaizer Chiefs will be at the top.

“I hear people saying they don’t score, but I was watching their game against Golden Arrows and the goal they conceded. You cannot concede such silly goals when you are Kaizer Chiefs, so that’s one of the things I would work on," he added.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Benouahi's desire comes at a time Chiefs are struggling in the league under Nasreddine Nabi. The coach has found himself under intense scrutiny as the Glamour Boys fight for at least a top-eight finish this season.

Although their struggle has been mainly witnessed in PSL, Amakhosi have reached the final of the Nedbank Cup. The challenge to win the domestic competition is not going to be easy, though, as they will face their traditional rivals, Orlando Pirates.

The Sea Robbers are not only the defending champions but also enjoy an impressive campaign on multiple fronts. While Chiefs are chasing their only possible title in the cup campaign, Bucs are in contention for the Caf Champions League and the league title as well.

WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS AND NABI?

Whether Nabi will survive after the season ends is a matter of speculation now.

He might keep his job if he wins the Nedbank Cup, but ending the season trophy-less will surely add more pressure on his shoulders.
