  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns are set for a crucial Club World Cup outing against Fluminense on Wednesday night.

A win for either team will be enough to get a ticket for the next phase of the global club competition, with a losing side going home.

The South American outfit lead Group F with four points, the same as second-placed Borussia Dortmund, who beat Masandawana 4-3 on Matchday 2.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Fluminense coach Renato Gaucho is not expecting an easy outing despite coming into the match as favourites.

He insists Masandawana are dangerous and shouldn't be given a chance because they will end up causing harm.

The tactician has further claimed his team will have to employ a defensive approach to avoid being caught in counterattacks that might jeopardize their chances of winning.

    WHAT GAUCHO SAID

"A difficult, very dangerous game; we will prepare in the same way we have prepared since we arrived," he told Terra Brasil.

"We have to be as careful as we were against Borussia. Without the ball, we will take defensive precautions. With the ball, we will play and look for the goal.

"We respect our opponents, but we know our potential. We will try to neutralize their main plays, but we will play looking for the goal," Gaucho concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

From what was seen against the BVB, Masandawana have what it takes to get a win on Wednesday and grab a last-16 ticket.

However, they will have to reduce their defensive mistakes and unnecessary touches, especially from the back, to clear any dangers.

After losing the Caf Champions League final, coach Miguel Cardoso is keen on making amends in the United States.
