    WHAT HAPPENED?

Cape Town City recently appointed Muhsin Ertugral as their technical director following Eric Tinkler's release, and he will take on interim coaching duties.

Ertugral's first challenge is a high-stakes clash against Kaizer Chiefs at the DHL Stadium on Sunday.

Former Chiefs player Mabotsa has expressed confidence in Ertugral's ability to exploit his knowledge of Chiefs' culture to gain an advantage.

The 65-year-old will face enormous pressure to deliver results immediately.

Mabotsa emphasised how the Turk's understanding of South African football and coaching philosophy could disrupt Chiefs.

Known for nurturing young talent, Ertugral may showcase a different Cape Town City on the field.

The veteran coach’s debut match will test both his tactical acumen and his ability to adapt after a long absence from the PSL.

    WHAT MABOTSA SAID

"To be honest, coach Muhsin has been away for too long, but facing his former club will definitely motivate him," said Mabotsa as reported by KickOff.

"I am who I am today because of Muhsin Ertugral. It’s going to be a tough match because he understands the culture of Kaizer Chiefs." Mabotsa added.

"Kaizer Chiefs also need the points, so this match will be a significant test for Nasredine Nabi. Muhsin knows the Chiefs culture, and he will relish this opportunity to compete against them; he is going to transform the entire team. You will see a different Cape Town City under Muhsin because he will give the youngsters a chance.

"While sitting on the sidelines, Muhsin has been observing Chiefs games, so he is familiar with every team in the PSL. I expect the match to end in a draw if Chiefs can’t secure a victory. I hope Chiefs win, but it will be tough. However, I believe there will be goals in the match.” he concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Cape Town City is sitting in an unfamiliar position, currently ranked 12th on the PSL log with 10 points.

This is far below their usual standards, placing enormous pressure on Ertugral to deliver immediate results.

His wealth of experience and familiarity with South African football culture could play a pivotal role in turning the team around.

However, any slip-up in the upcoming fixtures could deepen the club’s struggles.

Winning against Kaizer Chiefs would not only boost team morale but also reaffirm his credibility after his return to coaching.

For the former Orlando Pirates coach, this interim role might be the key to reviving Cape Town City's fortunes.

    WHAT NEXT FOR ERTUGRAL?

Ertugral's last appearance in a South African dugout was with Maritzburg United in 2019.

After a six-year break, he will lead Cape Town City against Kaizer Chiefs in a critical match.

The seasoned coach will aim to prove that he remains a formidable tactician despite his lengthy absence.

Facing a team like Chiefs offers him the chance to demonstrate his ability to adapt to modern football.

The outcome of this match will likely determine how Cape Town City's season unfolds.
