    WHAT HAPPENED?

George Lebese has described how former Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter moulded him into a "big player" and the coach's huge influence at the Soweto giants.

Baxter won a number of trophies with Amakhosi, and Lebese waxes lyrical about the English-Scottish trainer.

    WHAT LEBESE SAID

"He's a good human, you know. He takes it beyond soccer, beyond the field," Lebese told Beyond the Game podcast.

He wants to understand if you're okay or not. He wants an emotionally stable player because once your emotions are intact, you perform better, and he wanted that.

"My change and transition into becoming this big player at the club came under Stuart Baxter. He helped figure out my style of play, and he nurtured that."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Baxter's first spell as Chiefs was very successful as he guided the Soweto giants to two Premier Soccer League titles, the Nedbank Cup and MTN8.

He remains the last man to lead Amakhosi to the PSL title when he delivered it in 2015 before his second stint at Naturena proved to be a disaster after he failed to last the 2021/22 season.

His work was a benchmark for a number of coaches who arrived at Chiefs after him, including the current man at the helm, Nasreddine Nabi.

    WHAT NEXT?

Should Nabi remain as Chiefs coach next season, the biggest demand from him would be to be the first coach to hand Amakhosi the PSL title after Baxter.

The Tunisian's fight would be to be mentioned as one of the most successful coaches to work at Amakhosi.
