    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling to have a striker who is a regular goal-scorer.

That has seen the idea of having a finishing coach being mooted, and coach Nasreddine Nabi comments on that issue.

    WHAT NABI SAID

“What was missing was to put the ball in the back of the net, it is that simple. We were unlucky not to get the three points but we had clear chances to score. We did everything but didn’t score,” said Nabi as per FARPost.

“We feel that not scoring is not an issue about a coach for strikers, probably it is an idea we can discuss [with the management] but it is not an issue for today’s game.”

“I am not being dramatic but it is bad, it is not the first game we have a chance to move up the log standings but drop points. The mistakes we continue to commit have been the same since the start of the season," added the Tunisian.

“At this moment, we need to evaluate to understand what is the problem because tonight [against CT City], normal score 3 to 4-0 win, I say this with big respect to Cape Town City but we had to score.

"I will take the responsibility, I don’t want to attack my players, I need to protect them. After games, I don’t even question my players even when they miss an opportunity, but it is not possible that you always lose.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs are currently the seventh-highest-scoring side in this 2024/25  PSL campaign.

But they have been struggling with striker issues even after signing Glody Lilepo in January and loaning out Christian Saile Basomboli.

Roping in a forwards coach would see them following in the path of Orlando Pirates, who hired Scott Chickelday last season in a bid to improve their strikeforce.

The coach's role will be similar to that of Benni McCarthy when he had a role to work with Manchester United strikers under Erik ten Hag.

    WHAT NEXT?

With the season slowly approaching it's conclusion, it is to be seen if Amakhosi will go ahead and sign a strikers coach.

It might be something coach Nasreddine Nabi might implement next term if he does not do it now.
