    WHAT HAPPENED?

Qatar SC lost 2-0 to Al Rayyan away on Saturday in a match Percy Tau participated for a full 90 minutes.

It was on the final day of the 2024/25 Stars League season and Qatar SC finished 10th in the 12-team competition.

This is after they failed to win their last seven league matches and had two points more than 11th-placed Umm Salal, who will now play in the relegation playoffs.

    DIFFICULT SEASON FOR TAU

In a season which started with less game time for Al Ahly due to injuries and loss of form, Tau's move to Qatar was expected to revitalise him.

Although he started nine league matches for Qatar SC, he struggled to make an impact, only managing two assists without scoring.

His one appearance in the Qatar-UAE Super Cup against Al Nasr also did not yield a goal or an assist.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Having returned to the Bafana Bafana fold in March for the first time since June 2024, Tau would be hoping his performance in Qatar will not affect his national team place.

This comes has coach Hugo Broos has been hard on him whenever he lost form.

With the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers still on, and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations coming, Tau would want to improve his form to remain in the national side.

    WHAT NEXT FOR TAU?

The 30-year-old could be on the move this upcoming transfer window as his Qatar SC contract expires in June, but the club have an option to extend his deal.

It remains to be seen if the club will retain or release him following a difficult time there.
