    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Fifa recently confirmed that the teams will be given a special transfer window to strengthen their squads.

One of the players who has been heavily linked to Sundowns is Bafana Bafana and Stellenbosch left-back Fawaaz Basadien.

However, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are also interested in the services of the defender.

Masandawana chairman Thlopie Motsepe insists the Premier Soccer League champions might not sign many players for the Club World Cup, but will surely go for an exceptional talent.

It explains why they might go for the Stellies defender in the next couple of days.

    WHAT MOTSEPE SAID

"It's an exciting initiative by FIFA to allow clubs to recruit players before the start of the Club World Cup," he said as quoted by SABC Sport.

"As a fan of the game, I think every fan will be excited to see another transfer window that happens during this period of the year.

"The squad that we have right now is very stable, and there is great chemistry in the group, everybody is aligned with the vision of what we want to achieve in the Club World Cup. That's not to say we are not going to be looking at any potential players in the transfer market. At the moment, the team is strong and confident, so it's going to take someone special to convince us to make a move," Motsepe added.

    AND WHAT IS MORE

The administrator insists the main objective is to help coach Miguel Cardoso have a better pre-season with 2025/26 campaign in the picture.

"Due to the nature of our season, our pre-season will be cut short, so it will be important to find opportunities to bring in new players, and give Miguel Cardoso the pre-season he didn't have," Motsepe continued.

"We'll go into the market when the time is right, and we'll look for the type of player that can complement what we're trying to achieve. We have a wonderful technical director, and we'll make sure that the Sundowns you saw this season will be even stronger next season," he concluded.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Sundowns are currently focusing on the second leg of the Caf Champions League final against Pyramids to be played on Sunday in Cairo.

The last meeting at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium ended 1-1, meaning the Egyptian outfit have a slight advantage ahead of the fixture.
