    WHAT HAPPENED?

Chippa United will face Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup last 16, aiming to secure a spot in the quarterfinals at the expense of Nasreddine Nabi’s side.

Coach Thabo September, who took charge after Kwanele Kopo’s departure, shared his thoughts on what his team needs to do to emerge victorious.

He emphasized the importance of mentality and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.

The Chilli Boys will look to be disciplined defensively while showcasing their attacking talents.

With a strong squad available, September believes his team can rise to the occasion.

    WHAT SEPTEMBER SAID

“It's a cup game and it's a once-off match, so you need to approach it with the right mentality to make sure that you play well. Give your all in that 90 minutes and make sure we capitalise on the opportunities that we create,” September told the media as reported by the Sowetan.

“We also have to be stubborn and selfish in terms of conceding goals, so we have a good plan on what we need to do. Playing against a big team like Chiefs is a great opportunity for these players to showcase their talent.”

“The team looks good except Sirgio [Kammies], who is suspended,” he said.

“The rest of the team looks good. So, we have a good pool that we can select from against Chiefs and we just need to go out there and show the good talent that we have.

“Express ourselves well and besides the tactics, we need to come out of a shell and play our football and make sure we do the things that we need to do right and players playing on their strengths,” he concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chippa United has slipped out of the top eight in the league standings and will be eager to bounce back with a statement performance in the cup competition.

They suffered a 1-0 league defeat to Chiefs in December 2024 and will be motivated to avenge that loss.

The club enjoyed a strong Nedbank Cup run in 2024, reaching the semi finals before falling to eventual winners Orlando Pirates.

A win against Chiefs would mark a significant step toward another deep cup run that will boost the side's confidence heading into the latter stages of the season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR UNITED?

Chippa United will head to FNB Stadium with the goal of knocking out Kaizer Chiefs and securing a place in the last eight of the Nedbank Cup.

After that it is a return to PSL action next week away against a resurgent Cape Town City under interim coach Muhsin Ertugral.

September’s team could look forward to the rest of the season with confidence if they come away from those two fixtures with two wins.
