    Downs continue dominance at home

Mamelodi Sundowns took control from the first whistle, fully aware that their Nigerian opponents needed to chase the game to overturn the aggregate deficit at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. Any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed when Nuno Santos latched onto a pass from Aubrey Modiba and rifled a low shot into the bottom corner.

Miguel Cardoso’s men continued to apply pressure, with Tashreeq Matthews nearly adding a second with a long-range strike that whistled just wide. At the other end, Dennis Onyango remained largely untested throughout the half. Sundowns capped off their dominant first-half display with a second goal just before the break, as Peter Shalulile pounced from close range to extend the lead.

In the second half, Sundowns maintained their grip on the match, probing the opposition with sharp attacking play. The visitors began to show glimpses of intent, finding brief moments of rhythm, but struggled to convert possession into clear chances.

Despite the flurry of opportunities, the scoreline held at 2–0 (7–1 on aggregate), as Sundowns confidently marched into the CAF Champions League group stages, keeping their pursuit of a second star firmly on track.

    The MVP

Nuno Santos is operating on another level entirely. From the moment he steps onto the pitch, his class is undeniable; vision, precision, and composure all wrapped into one electric presence. Against Remo Stars, he didn’t just score; he set the tone. That bottom-corner finish after linking up with Modiba was pure quality. His movement off the ball, ability to dictate tempo, and relentless drive make him a standout.

    The big loser

The visitors entered the contest on the back foot, displaying little urgency or attacking intent as they struggled to advance into Sundowns’ half. Their cautious approach allowed the hosts to dictate the tempo early on, with minimal pressure applied in the final third.
