    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung has passionately talked about the club's ambitions to participate in bigger tournaments like the FIFA Club World Cup.

Amakhosi would have been part of the expanded Club World Cup tournament had they defeated Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League in 2021.

To be part of the bigger competitions, Motaung acknowledges that the ground must be laid first before such ambitions come to fruition.

    WHAT MOTAUNG SAID

"That's been the passion, the joy of being part of Kaizer Chiefs. That's been the vision; that's why you saw what happened after winning the Nedbank Cup. What can you do when you're in that stage?" Motaung said on 947's MSW, as per KickOff.

"But it's not a sprint; it takes time, it takes proper planning. It's a journey; it takes structures as well. That's why you need stability; you need to plan properly. These things don't just happen overnight," he added.

"We're back in Africa now after so many years. I mean, we lost the CAF Champions League in the final during Covid; that thing was traumatic, and we lost the league in Covid with a draw. That trauma to come from is not an overnight switch; to lose at that level with the ambition of reaching higher levels...it took a lot of time for us to really get things back."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs will have to pull up their socks if they are to be considered for the Club World Cup showpiece in the future. They first need to stamp authority in the Premier Soccer League and in the CAF Champions League if such a dream is to be achieved.

Motaung's revelations of Amakhosi's ambitions come just after the African representatives were eliminated from the ongoing tournament in the United States.

Elias Mokwana's Esperance, Thembinkosi Lorch and Cassius Mailula's Wydad AC, Al Ahly, and PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns were knocked out at the preliminary stage.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Their pre-season tour will see them set camp in the Netherlands, where they will play a number of high-profile friendlies.

Pre-season tour aside, Chiefs' fans are waiting keenly to see who will be signed by the club to strengthen the playing unit. Already, spaces for new signings have been created by the exits of Edmilson Dove, Sabele Radebe, Ranga Chivaviro, and Njabulo Blom.
