    WHAT HAPPENED?

    Benni McCarthy named his 25-man Kenya squad for the upcoming international friendly matches against Chad.

    The Harambe Stars are set to face Chad in back-to-back friendly games on June 7 and 10 in Morocco.

    McCarthy included in his selection former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama, who is now with Scottish side Dunfermline Athletic FC.

    Wanyama had retired from international football in September 2021.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Coincidentally, Wanyama is a brother to Federation of Kenyan Football vice-president McDonald Mariga, who is close to McCarthy.

    At 33, it is to be seen if Wanyama will be able to contribute immensely to the Kenya national team.

    He is also a player with experience expected to breathe life into Kenya's 2026 Fifa World Cup qualification campaign.

    For now, McCarthy's focus is on the upcoming international friendly matches.
