    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chefs' strikeforce has been one of their biggest weaknesses in recent seasons.

Former club goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune believes the Soweto giants should go all-out in the market to get prolific scorers.

Khune's call comes as Amakhosi have so far confirmed five signings, including three defenders, ahead of the 2025-26 season.

    WHAT KHUNE SAID

“Strikers don’t come cheap, let’s be honest,” Khune told Soccer Laduma

“They don’t because strikers win you matches, and if you have a quality striker and a quality goalkeeper, you know you will challenge for a championship every season.

“I think back in the days when coach Pitso took over Bafana, he used to be very hard on me and Katlego Mphela because he knew if I kept a clean sheet, ‘Killer’ would score, and we’d win 1-0. That’s when we even beat Egypt for the first time in a very long time because we had me in goals and a striker who could deliver," added the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

“You see, when you invest in a good striker and a good goalkeeper, you’re guaranteed you’ll be challenging for the championship. So Kaizer Chiefs really need to go to the market and invest in a striker.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs have signed one striker so far this transfer window in Flavio Silva.

For someone who was playing in Indonesia with a low profile, Silva's market value is R6 million, as per Transfermarkt.

That is a far cry from what their rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns, have been spending on each player.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

The arrival of Silva will leave Chiefs needing to adjust their foreign quota and make space for the Portuguese.

That could see goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari being sacrificed.
