Al Ahli are building serious momentum. Five consecutive wins across domestic and continental competition have lifted the mood around the Jeddah club considerably, with Monday's 2-1 victory over Qatari side Al-Gharafa in the AFC Champions League Elite the latest evidence that Marino Boscich's side have found their stride after a troubled start to the season.

The scale of that turnaround deserves context. Al Ahli lost their opening league fixture and struggled badly in the early weeks of the campaign before the international break appeared to reset the squad's focus. Since then, they have not dropped a game, and Ivan Toney has been central to that run, sitting clear at the top of the Saudi Pro League scoring charts with 13 goals from 11 appearances.

Yet the injury situation remains a serious concern. Seven players missed the Al-Gharafa match through a combination of injuries and disciplinary suspensions, including key figures such as Merih Demiral, Edouard Mendy and Winderson Galeno. The volume of absentees drew sharp public criticism, with Saudi broadcaster Sami Al-Qarshi describing the injury list in blunt terms. Coach Boscich has pushed back against suggestions that his training methods are responsible.

Off the pitch, the club is searching for a sporting director after a turbulent period in that role. Albanian candidate Igli Tare, formerly of Lazio and Milan, has emerged as a candidate but has publicly distanced himself from the speculation.
