USWNT Women's World Cup 2019Elsa

Just a year after the 2018 edition of the men's World Cup final in Russia, the Women's World Cup 2019 has wrapped up in full, having started on June 7, 2019 and ended on July 7, 2019 with the United States claiming their second straight title and fourth overall.

Taking place in France – the first time the country has hosted the tournament and the third time Europe has done so – this summer's competition saw 24 countries compete for the highest football honour.

The reigning champions, the U.S. women's national team, proved to be the strongest side en route to record fourth World Cup, just a year after the U.S. men's national team were unable to even qualify for the World Cup in Russia.

Here is everything you need to know about this summer's competition.

Where is the Women's World Cup 2019 final?

The final of the 2019 Women's World Cup was held at the  Parc Olympique Lyonnais , also know as Groupama Stadium, in Lyon on July 7, 2019.  The stadium is France's largest-capacity venue and will be able to hold 59,186 fans.

The venue is the home of Ligue 1 side Lyon and also hosted the 2018 Europa League final, which was won by Atletico Madrid.

The stadium was freshly built in 2013 to replace Lyon's former home of Stade de Gerland and also hosted the 2017 Coupe de la Ligue Final – which marked the first time that the event took place outside of Paris.

Lyon's home ground was one of nine venues hosting the World Cup matches and also hosted semi-final fixtures in addition to the final.

It will also be one of the venues for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

With the competition now complete, the U.S. women's national team are once again champions of the world, having fought off all comers to claim a second straight crown and a fourth overall.

Along the way the USA ousted European powers Spain, France, England and Netherlands, with third-place finisher Sweden having also been beaten by the USA in the group stage, meaning the USWNT will likely remain favourites on the world stage for the next four years.
