Man Utd ratings vs Chelsea: Casemiro can't be stopped! Brazilian shows out again to lead Red Devils back to the Champions League

Casemiro led Manchester United's charge back to the Champions League in a dominant 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea. The Brazilian got the ball rolling with a thumping header from a free-kick, scoring for the second game running. He then produced a gorgeous pass to help set up Anthony Martial for the second goal right before half-time.

A Bruno Fernandes penalty and a late strike from Marcus Rashford rounded off a hugely satisfying night for Erik ten Hag's side, although Joao Felix did grab a consolation goal for the visitors.

The only sour note for Ten Hag was a serious-looking injury to Antony just nine days before the FA Cup final clash with Manchester City.

GOAL rates Manchester United's players from Old Trafford...

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    David de Gea (7/10):

Didn't face a shot on target in the first half but kept busy in the second. Did well to keep out two deflected efforts from Mudryk and a venomous attempt from Hall.

    Aaron Wan-Bissaka (7/10):mud

Timed his tackles superbly as usual.

    Victor Lindelof (7/10):

Aggressive in the tackle and helped drive the team forward.

    Raphael Varane (7/10):

Assured on the ball and physically dominant.

    Luke Shaw (6/10):

Had a quiet game and was taken off at half-time with a suspected back injury. A potential fitness worry nine days out from the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

    Midfield

    Christian Eriksen (8/10):

Set the opening goal up with a perfect delivery from the free-kick. One of several defence-splitting passes he made.

    Casemiro (9/10):

Outstanding from start to finish. Broke Chelsea's play up with a number of crunching tackles, scored for the second game running and produced an outrageous no-look pass for the second goal.

    Bruno Fernandes (7/10):

Another tireless and commanding performance. Won and converted the penalty for goal number three then robbed Fofana to set up Rashford for the fourth.

  • Anthony Martial Jadon Sancho Manchester United 2022-23Getty Images

    Attack

    Antony (5/10):

Played poorly, making a number of bad decisions. His night was cruelly cut short when he sustained a painful foot injury in the first half which looks to have ended his season.

    Anthony Martial (6/10):

Did not play particularly well, making lots of poor decisions and again lacking sharpness. But he got the all-important second goal by converting Sancho's simple lay-off. Then again, he could hardly have missed.

    Jadon Sancho (6/10):

Was frustrating for much of the first half but ultimately provided the pass for the second goal.

  • Marcus Rashford Manchester United 2022-23Getty Images

    Subs & Manager

    Marcus Rashford (7/10):

Not as sharp as usual due to being injured and then ill but getting back to full fitness and got a goal to improve his confidence ahead of the FA Cup final.

    Tyrell Malacia (6/10):

Got booked for rowing with Chelsea players after Fernandes' penalty.

    Alejandro Garnacho (7/10):

Another explosive display from the bench. Helped Fernandes win the penalty by releasing the Portuguese in the area and always looked dangerous when he got on the ball.

    Fred (N/A):

Provided extra energy to turn a comfortable win into a thrashing.

    Scott McTominay (N/A):

Only introduced for the last six minutes.

    Erik ten Hag (7/10):

Didn't take a risk with Rashford from the start but soon called upon him when Antony came off. His substitutions made United more dangerous.
