Malik Scott backs 'risk-taker' Jamie Carragher to make sensational Liverpool return after burying hatchet over awkward comments about his wife Kate

Slot won the Premier League title in his first season in charge of the Reds but has hit a difficult spell in the early weeks of his second campaign at the helm. A run of four straight defeats, to Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Manchester United, has cast scrutiny on Slot and his methods. Some of the club's new signings have also come under fire after failing to impress at Anfield. The Reds invested heavily to bring in Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz but both players are struggling to live up to their lofty price tags. Milos Kerkez, another summer addition, has also endured a tough start to his Liverpool career and has come in for criticism for a series of poor showings. Meanwhile, talismanic forward Mohamed Salah has also seen his form desert him just months after signing a lucrative new contract at the club.

Scott, who mocked Carragher after the Liverpool legend made an ill-advised joke about his wife Kate before burying the hatchet, has shared his thoughts on the situation and feels Carragher could prove useful in the dressing room and help the club's new signings settle. Carragher spent his entire career at Liverpool, making over 500 appearances for the club, and Scott says his experience could help.

He told Jackpot City Casino: "If I was a betting man, I would say yes. Jamie Carragher is brave, he has audacity, he's been around the game, he's played the game, so his perspective and opinion matters. He's a risk-taker with his opinion. I just think all of those things could be useful anywhere. And when I say anywhere, I mean anywhere. All of those things can allow you to be a good family man, all those things can allow you to be a good worker, all of those things can allow you to be a good leader."

Scott and Carragher have managed to mend their relationship after the former Liverpool man sparked controversy with an awkward joke while on punditry duty. He left fans cringing after appearing to question Kate Scott's loyalty to her husband in an exchange that left the TV presenter visibly annoyed. 

CBS Sports' Champions League producer, Pete Radovich, subsequently admitted the matter had been addressed afterwards. He told The Athletic: “The first thing to say is everyone was surprised at the reaction that night; myself, Kate and Jamie included, because it was just banter gone wrong amongst friends, between a brother and sister. That night, when it started to snowball, we had discussions. It wasn’t alarms or questioning if we were going to be able to repair this. He misspoke. He felt bad. Kate wasn’t crazy about it, but none of it was like, ‘This could be the end’.

“The biggest reaction was surprise at how much play it got. So, there was never a moment in all of that time where I was like, ‘Wow, I don’t know if we can bounce back from this’. Not even for a split second because I knew internally we were all cool. It’s not for me to speak for Kate, but I can only speak to the conversations I had with Kate. She conveyed to me that she wasn’t crazy about the comment, but at the same time, we can get over this.”

Carragher continue to work as a pundit and co-commentator and will no doubt be hoping Liverpool can arrest their current slump on Wednesday when they return to action. The Reds take on Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt at the Deutsche Bank Park in the Champions League and know anything other than three points will bring fresh scrutiny on Slot and his team.
