Phil Parkinson's Wrexham have fallen to back-to-back league losses for the first time this term after going down 1-0 against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Forward Ben Brereton Diaz struck his first goal of the campaign in the opening half to lift Chris Wilder's resurgent Blades right into Championship play-off contention.

Former Republic of Ireland international James McClean has parted company with hometown club Derry City after both parties agreed to cancel his contract with immediate effect. The 37-year-old wideman leaves Brandywell Stadium just nine months after returning from Wrexham following a protracted dispute that kept him sidelined since July.

Burnley have appointed Fabio Celestini as their new head coach, four days after sacking Nicky Hayen. The former CSKA Moscow and Basel boss takes over a side who sit 22nd in the Championship with just one league win to their name this season, and the Swiss will be in the dugout for the first time when the Clarets host Portsmouth at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Wrexham have been fined £75,000 ($99,800) by the EFL, with a third of it suspended, after naming Issa Kabore and Callum O'Hare in matchday squads when neither was eligible. The Championship club escaped a points deduction only because they lost the first game and O'Hare stayed on the bench in the second, and they are now looking to appoint a club secretary.
