    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi and the team captains have been advised to address Gaston Sirino's conduct to prevent missing his presence during matches.

The 34-year-old player has frequently been caught up in altercations and intense moments since his days with Mamelodi Sundowns where he picked up several red cards.

Sirino was shown a red card in the Soweto giants' humiliating 4-1 loss to SuperSport United in a league match last Tuesday at the FNB Stadium.

Now, former Fifa and PSL referee Victor Hlungwani has explained that the talented player needs to be 'managed.'

    WHAT HLUNGWANI SAID

"You know one of the qualities of a referee is to prevent problems and when you prevent problems using experience, you look at players that are instrumental, you need to protect on the field," Hlungwani explained on Smash Sports YouTube Channel.

"'Don't spoil my game!' You get Sirino there, if you don't manage Sirino, you'll end up giving him a red card. At one stage I was doing a game between Maritzburg and Sundowns, it was a cup game.

"Now, Sirino gets a yellow card and I could see he can't handle his emotions. I went to Hlompho (and said to him), 'Hlompho, you're the captain of the team, you're responsible for the behaviour of your own players, speak to him (Sirino)," Hlungwani, who is the chairperson of the Safa Gauteng Provincial Referees Committee, added.

"I told him if you don't take him out, this one is going! Hlompho went to Pitso (Mosimane) but Pitso did not take him out, within five minutes Sirino pulled someone with a shirt, second yellow, red! And then Hlompho was like, to coach (Pitso), 'I told you!."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sirino joined Chiefs at the start of the season upon Nabi's arrival after parting ways with Sundowns and has made an immediate impact as anticipated.

The seasoned attacking player has, to date, netted at least three goals and provided four assists in 15 games across all competitions for the Naturena-based giants.

Sirino needs to manage his emotions as he could play a significant role in helping the Glamour Boys push for the Caf-Inter-club competition spot and secure the 2024/25 Nedbank Cup title.

    WHAT NEXT?

Sirino will be absent from the forthcoming PSL match between Sundowns and Chiefs as he will be serving a two-match suspension.

Amakhosi and Downs are set to face each other at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, March 1.
