    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns will lock horns with Pyramids in the final of the CAF Champions League at Loftus Versfeld in the first leg, hoping to take a strong lead before travelling to Egypt. Former Orlando Pirates winger Tlou Segolela, now coaching Magesi’s DDC side, shared his thoughts on the clash.

Having played in the 2013 final against Al Ahly, Segolela understands the pressure and intensity of continental finals. He believes that although the Egyptian visitors will pose a threat, Masandawana have the pedigree and experience needed to come out on top.

He emphasised that Sundowns have paid their dues in the competition over the years. He is confident they can clinch their second star and solidify their place as continental giants.

    WHAT SEGOLELA SAID

“I think Sundowns are favourites for this one,” said Segolela as reported by IDiski Times.

“They are much more experienced than Pyramids. Also, I expect that Pyramids will play an open game, which should suit Sundowns.

“The Egyptian team is very strong aerially, and they will also rely on their physicality to frustrate Sundowns, but I expect Sundowns to be able to deal with all that.

“My prediction is for Sundowns to add that second star.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Since lifting the CAF Champions League in 2016, Mamelodi Sundowns have consistently fallen short in pursuit of a second title. This season, they have finally gone the distance under the leadership of Miguel Cardoso. Ironically, Cardoso defeated Sundowns last season while in charge of Esperance, eliminating Rulani Mokwena’s team.

Mokwena would later move to Wydad Casablanca, the very club he has just parted ways with. This final marks a chance for redemption and a new era of dominance for Masandawana.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS?

A highly anticipated clash awaits at Loftus Versfeld against Pyramids. A solid home performance will be crucial before heading to Cairo for the decisive second leg. All eyes are on Masandawana to deliver under pressure and seize continental glory.
