Premier League Betting: Tottenham 11/4 to finish in top four after hiring Mourinho

Tottenham are 11/4 (3.75) with bet365 to finish in the top four after replacing Mauricio Pochettino with Jose Mourinho on Wednesday morning.

The Argentine, who led Spurs to their first-ever Champions League final just five months ago, was sacked on Tuesday night after failing to find form in the Premier League.

Indeed, the London side have won just three league matches this season and picked up 14 points, leaving them 14th in the table and already 11 points behind the top four.

An impressive turnaround in form will certainly be required considering they have also managed just six wins from their last 24 league games, and not won away from home in the league since January 20 – some 13 away games ago.

The appointment of Mourinho marks his return to management after almost 12 months out following his sacking from Manchester United in December 2018.

Qualifying for the Champions League is almost certainly the main priority for Spurs this season but the 11/4 (3.75) on a top-four finish does not inspire much confidence, despite Mourinho’s record.

Indeed, the Portuguese manager has only once finished below third in a full season and has won the domestic league on seven separate occasions, with three runner-up places to his name as well. It is 500/1 (501.0) that Spurs win the league.

The positive outlook for Spurs fans is that they have already faced a string of difficult games this season, including trips to Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Leicester, and so there is certainly potential for the north London side as the campaign goes on.

Tottenham have also made good progress in the Champions League despite their 7-2 drubbing by Bayern Munich. Back-to-back wins over Red Star Belgrade put them second in Group B and they are now just 1/100 (1.01) to make the knockout stages.

Mourinho has won Europe’s premier club competition with Porto and Inter in his career and has reached the semi-finals on no fewer than six other occasions, whilst also being in charge when Chelsea lost the 2008 final to Manchester United.

bet365 make Spurs 33/1 (34.0) to win the Champions League for the first time in their history, with Man City 11/4 (3.75) favourites ahead of Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain (both 6/1).
