Fantasy Football: Lukaku, Vardy & Dawson lead Goal's Fantasy Team of the Week

It was nice having a full match week after last week’s shortened fixture list. Now all we have to do is wait a whole two weeks before the Premier League returns to action. Some players will benefit from the rest and will hopefully come back fully fit.

But we fantasy managers will likely be watching the calendar counting down, counting down the days. So, whilst stuck in this fantasy purgatory, why not peruse Goal's Fantasy Team of the Week.

GK: Tom Heaton - Burnley - 1 Game, 5 Saves, 1 Clean Sheet = 9 Points

DF: Craig Dawson - West Brom - 1 Game, 2 Goals, 1 Goal Conceded = 15 Points

Craig Dawson

Not many dared start Dawson against Arsenal’s top five attack. Those that did, however, were very handsomely rewarded with his two headed goals and a whopping 15 points. While Dawson has scored three goals in the last five matches, there is still concern regarding this West Brom defence who failed to earn a clean sheet over that same period. The attacking potential of Dawson and McAuley make them the only two Baggies defenders worth owning.

DF: Gary Cahill - Chelsea - 1 Game, 1 Goal, 1 Goal Conceded = 8 Points

DF: Robert Huth - Leicester City - 1 Game, 1 Goal, 2 Goals Conceded = 7 Points

MF: Willian - Chelsea - 1 Game, 1 Goal = 8 Points

MF: Christian Eriksen - Tottenham - 1 Game, 1 Goal = 8 Points

MF: Manuel Lanzini - West Ham - 1 Game, 1 Goal = 8 Points

Averaging over six points per game over the last five matches, Lanzini seems to be the one most capable of filling the Dimitri Payet-shaped hole in West Ham’s midfield. His reliability is somewhat limited by the performances and abilities of those around him but, based on his form, it’s worth bringing the Argentinian into your fantasy team.

MF: Riyad Mahrez - Leicester City - 1 Game, 1 Goal = 8 Points

FW: Romelu Lukaku - Everton - 1 Game, 2 Goals, 1 Assist = 15 Points

With performances like that, it’s no wonder Lukaku thinks he should be playing Champions League Football. He may indeed leave Everton in the summer but he is an absolute must own in all fantasy formats at the moment. With five goals and two assists in his last five matches, Lukaku is the most form player in the Goal game at the moment.

FW: Jamie Vardy - Leicester City - 1 Game, 1 Goal, 1 Assist = 10 Points

The last days of Claudio Ranieri were painful ones for Vardy and his owners considering his last goal under the regime came on boxing day. The script has well and truly flipped since Craig Shakespeare took the reigns with the English forward notching four goals and two assists in all competitions since the managerial change. We learned last season just how good Vardy can be when he hits a vein of form and it certainly seems to be happening again right now.

FW: Benik Afobe - Bournemouth - 1 Game, 1 Goal, 1 Assist = 10 Points
