  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The Argentine midfielder put in another stellar performance as the Blues moved closer to next season's Champions League by beating Manchester United on Friday. The cameras picked up an issue with his eye during the game, with one side of his face looking puffy and closed up under the lights at Stamford Bridge.

    According to the BBC, Fernandez has been playing with conjunctivitis in recent weeks, with the illness stretching back across Chelsea's last two Premier League games. Despite this, he asked to play in the match, and the previous game against Newcastle, as he looks to captain the Blues back into Europe's elite competition.

    Speaking on Instagram, Fernandez joked about his situation, saying: "(It was the) last match at home with this group that will give it all until the end, we have two finals left. Thank you to the fans for the support all season. My first game playing with one eye."
