Is Taylor Swift a Real Madrid fan?! Pop superstar shouts out Los Blancos on newly-released album

The 14-time Grammy winner released her new album on Friday, October 3, titled 'The Life of a Showgirl.' While the album is filled with personal confessions regarding her love life, she has caught the attention of the football fraternity by namedropping Real Madrid in one of her tracks. 

The song which has sent shockwaves among football fans across the globe is titled 'Wi$h Li$t', through which Swift attempts to explain how an individual can easily develop lust for fame and glamour. "They want it all. They want a contract with Real Madrid...," read the lyrics from the aforementioned title. 

While it's unclear exactly who she's referencing, Swift may be using the metaphor of Los Blancos to symbolise the relentless pursuit of having it all, likening it to a footballer's desire for a coveted contract with Real Madrid.

In May 2024, Swift brought her extended Eras Tour to the newly-renovated Santiago Bernabeu, performing on back-to-back nights to sellout crowds. The concerts were hailed as a major success and a significant step in Madrid’s push to generate revenue through non-footballing events. However, the Merengues have since faced backlash, with reports indicating the stadium lacked adequate soundproofing. Local residents complained of excessive noise levels – reportedly exceeding 90 decibels – well above the European limit of 55 decibels, sparking concerns over the venue's suitability for large-scale concerts.

Xabi Alonso's side bounced back from the 5-2 humiliation at the hands of their cross-city rivals Atletico Madrid last weekend by a dominant display of their own against newcomers Kairat Almaty in the Champions League on Tuesday.
