'I like to see it' - Roy Keane backs Ruben Amorim's call to drop 'poor' Marcus Rashford & Alejandro Garnacho from Man Utd squad for derby encounter with Man City

Rashford and Garnacho were both left out as Amorim announced his 19-man squad for the Manchester derby at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Rashford was omitted from the team just three days after a dreadful performance against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League. Garnacho, too, missed out on playing against City as Mason Mount and Amad Diallo partnered Rasmus Hojlund in the front three.

Rashford's exclusion was especially significant as he was recently linked with a move away from the club. Amorim received support from club legend and pundit Roy Keane, who fully backed the decision to drop two underperforming players in a crucial encounter.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the Irishman said: "It is a big call. He has obviously seen something he doesn't like. But for those who have watched Manchester United recently, it's not a big surprise because both players have been poor. He has said 'enough is enough'. It's a big call, but I like to see it - he has put down a marker."

He added: "A move for Marcus [Rashford] would suit the player – a new challenge for him. He’s been there a long time. When you’re at a big club and your attitude is not right – and it hasn’t been great recently – sometimes it’s good to part ways."

The Red Devils staged a remarkable comeback after falling behind to a Josko Gvardiol header as a Bruno Fernandes penalty and a last-gasp Amad Diallo strike helped them edge out their local rivals 2-1 to get back to winning ways in the Premier League. They will next face Tottenham on Thursday night in a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash.
