  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Napoli swept Como aside as McTominay, Lukaku and David Neres continued their redemption arcs under Antonio Conte. The Scottish midfielder has enjoyed a fine start to life in Naples and has begun to develop a good understanding playing behind Lukaku. The former United players were reunited this summer with Lukaku joining from Chelsea and McTominay from the Red Devils, and the former is relishing the chance to play together again.

    WHAT LUKAKU SAID

Lukaku provided the assist for McTominay's opener and he praised the midfielder, saying to Sky Italia: "He knows my game, we played together in Manchester for two years. I know his ability in front of goal is lethal, we expect many goals and assists from him. He is doing very well and must continue like this."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Despite chipping in with a number of key goals and becoming a fan favourite at United, McTominay never seemed able to hold down a regular place at Old Trafford. Conte's deployment of the Scottish midfielder in a more advanced role seeks to make the most of his late runs into the box and finishing ability. After last season was blighted by off-the-pitch issues, Napoli are now aiming to win the title for the second time in three years.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NAPOLI?

McTominay downplayed ideas of Napoli winning the Scudetto, but Napoli will be certainly dreaming of winning silverware again. The Scot said: "The Scudetto? You have to look at it one game at a time, stay focused and listen to the advice of the coach and your team-mates." Napoli travel to Empoli in their first game back after the international break.
