Mohamed Salah reveals what advice he got from ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as Liverpool superstar explains how he deals with 'trash talk' from opposition defenders

Salah continues to be an integral figure for Liverpool, playing a key role in the team's dominance at the top of the Premier League under new manager Arne Slot. One of the defining aspects of Salah’s career is his ability to deliver decisive moments, even in games where he may not be at his best. The Liverpool talisman credits this ability to a valuable lesson he picked up from Wenger.

Salah recalled a conversation he had with Wenger, in which he sought to understand the difference between good players and truly great ones.

"I think I got that advice from Arsene Wenger in the past," he said in an interview with TNT Sports expert Steve McManaman.

"He told me: 'The great players, it does not matter how he performs in the game. He always stays focused and waits for the moment. He's always in the game'. And I put that into consideration a few years ago.

"Players' emotions go up and down, [but] I don't want my emotions to be like this. I just try to be stable and understand that not every game you're going to have your best game. If you stay focussed, maybe you will have one chance."

In addition to his mental resilience, Salah addressed how he deals with verbal taunts from defenders trying to throw him off his game. Rather than engaging in heated exchanges, the Egyptian forward remains calm and confident in his own ability.

"If some of them [opposing defenders] try to trash talk, I don't like to engage," Salah said. "I tell them: 'I don't need much, I just need one chance, just one chance, and you will pay for it.'"

Salah’s prolific goal-scoring record has led to discussions about whether he could surpass Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal record. According to research by Grosvenor Sport, Salah - who currently has 182 Premier League goals - is on track to equal Shearer’s record by the end of the 2027-28 season and potentially break it in the opening game of the 2028-29 campaign.

This projection is based on the assumption that the Egyptian remains at Liverpool until at least the age of 35. However, speculation over his future continues, with Salah previously admitting that he is "more out than in" at Anfield, hinting at a possible departure after another remarkable season.

Salah will be back in action against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League next Wednesday.
