According to ESPN, Corinthians are considering a contract extension for Depay, who is currently tied to the Brazilian club until mid-2026. The Netherlands star has become a key figure for the side, scoring seven goals in 11 games at the end of last season and helping them secure the Paulista title. However, financial issues at the club have complicated matters, with unpaid bonuses and signing fee instalments still outstanding.
Chief Financial Officer Emerson Piovesan admitted the club’s difficulties while speaking to ESPN, describing it as “the biggest challenge of my life.” Corinthians have stated that fulfilling the agreements in the current contract is their top priority before discussing any extension. Once these obligations are resolved, the club is likely to offer Depay a renewal to maintain continuity and retain one of their most influential players.
